One Hudson County Elementary School Named In Top 10 In NJ By US News Out of more than 2,300 public elementary schools in NJ, 1 Hudson County school ranked among the 10 best, said U.S. News and World Report.HUDSON COUNTY, NJ — U.S. News and World Report recently released their 2025 ranking of the nation's best public elementary schools — and one Hudson County public school came out on top.
The news magazine used publicly available data from the U.S. Department of Education in its metrics. Data included state assessments of students who were proficient or above proficient in math and reading/language arts, students' background, and their achievements in core subjects. Student-teacher ratios were applied to break ties.
School 28 in Paterson was listed as the best public elementary school in New Jersey, according to the list.
But one public school in Hudson County — Cornelia F. Bradford School, located in the Exchange Place area — also came out in the top 10. The school is also known as P.S. 16 .
The school, founded in 1918 , is named for philanthropist and social worker Cornelia Foster Bradford, who lived in Jersey City and worked to give children in poverty a better life.
The top 10 are:
- School 28, Paterson Public School District
- Princeton Charter School
- Washington Elementary School, Westfield Public School District
- Milton Avenue School, School District of the Chathams
- Cornelia F. Bradford School, Jersey City Public Schools
- Forrestdale School, Rumson Borough School District
- Lincoln-Hubbard Elementary School, Summit Public School District
- Orchard Elementary School, Ridgewood Public School District
- Hatikvah International Academy Charter School, East Brunswick
- Wildwood Elementary School, Mountain Lakes
Three other Bergen County schools made the top 25: Brookside School in Allendale at 17, Alexander Hamilton School in Glen Rock at number 21, Cherry Hill School in River Edge at 25.

LaMont Jones, managing editor for Education at U.S. News, said in a news release that the rankings are among evaluation tools that parents can use to see which schools are providing a good education for a successful future.
In total, U.S. News evaluated 47,573 elementary schools across the nation for their 2025 Best Elementary and Middle Schools Rankings.
