Overnight storm knocks out electrical service

Strong winds and heavy rain earlier this morning knocked out electrical service to many parts of the area, including Plains Township and Wilkes-Barre.
PPL reports 377 customers are without power as of 9 a.m. Friday.
At the height of the storm, 3,510 customers in Plains Township and 1,100 customers in Wilkes-Barre were without electrical service.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, N.Y., winds picked up just after 1 a.m. reaching 26 mph and gusting to 44 mph.
Winds diminished just after 6 a.m. Temperatures dropped from 48 degrees at 6 a.m. to 37 degrees at 9 a.m. in the Wilkes-Barre area, NWS reports.
Snow showers and light rain is in the forecast for the remainder of Friday.
Pennsylvania Department of Transportation, District 4-0, reports Main/Maffett streets in Jenkins Township and Broad Street/Black Creek Road in Nescopeck are closed due to the weather.
