PA Man Drowns, 2 Others Rescued Off Avon-By-The-Sea Sunday

At 6:34 p.m. Sunday, Avon-by-the-Sea Police responded to the Washington Avenue beach for a report of several swimmers in distress. Three swimmers were in the ocean and having trouble.

Rescue swimmers entered the water and began rescue efforts. Two of the swimmers were brought to shore and transported to Jersey Shore University Medical Center for evaluation.

However, at approximately 6:46 p.m., a third victim, later identified as a 55-year-old man from Pottstown, Pennsylvania was located submerged in the Shark River Inlet.

He was brought to shore where life-saving efforts began. He was also brought to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he was pronounced deceased. Police said not all of his family members have been notified of his death, so police will not be releasing his name.
