The Pasadena City Council will vote to authorize the City Manager to enter into an agreement with Caltrans to secure $2.5 million in funding through the Carbon Reduction Program (CRP) for the purchase of 17 zero-emission buses.

The grant, awarded by the Southern California Association of Governments on June 6, will support efforts to reduce transportation-related carbon emissions as part of a nationwide initiative established under the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, also known as the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.

The grant will enable the city to replace fossil fuel-powered buses, significantly lowering the carbon footprint of its transit fleet.

The project aligns with Pasadena's Zero Emission Rollout Plan and the California Air Resources Board's regulations aimed at cutting greenhouse gas emissions from public transit.

The Director of Transportation will manage the ongoing administration of the grant.

The Council also amended the Fiscal Year 2025 Capital Improvement Program Budget to recognize and allocate the grant funds toward the Purchase of Replacement Transit Vehicles and Expansion Fixed-Route Transit Vehicles project.

City officials emphasized that the initiative not only meets local and state sustainability goals but also contributes to a broader movement for cleaner, more efficient public transit systems across the country.

Delivery of the new zero-emission buses is expected in Fiscal Year 2026.
