PEKIN, Ill. (WMBD) — A church in Pekin broke ground on its new parish center.

St. Joseph Catholic Church has spent the last few years raising $4,000,000 to make the parish center a reality.

The new building will include gathering space for parish events and parish business offices.

Father Mike Andrejek said they're hoping to get the new center up and running in roughly one year.

"We can move our offices in here," he said. "We can have so much more space for our parishioners to have gatherings, meetings, and all that stuff. And to boot, as you are seeing here, everything is not really accessible. There it will be."

The new building will replace the former parish center that was built nearly 70 years ago.
