Pennsylvanians really love to share their Costco cards, study finds

You're not supposed to, but there are a few sneaky people among us who love to lend their Costco cards for others to use.

People in Pennsylvania seem to particularly partake in this sneakiness.

FreeBets.com — which is described by its " About Us " section as "a leading sports betting service dedicated to bringing top value to all our customers by constantly reviewing the latest up-to-date information about the latest free bet offers, top bonuses and promotions from all the best online bookmakers" — published a study last week titled "Costco Without the Card: 1 in 5 Americans Use Someone Else's Costco Membership."

This information — as well as other Costco stats — was found after FreeBets.com sent out a survey to 2,000 people around the country who don't have a membership to the wholesale retailer, as well as 2,000 people who do.

According to respondents' answers, Pennsylvania was seventh when it came to states which love to share their Costco cards with other people, a "no no" from the company, which really started to crack down on this practice starting last year.

The top three states that share the most were Nevada, Arizona, and California in third, second, and third, respectively.

"While Netflix's recent crackdown on password sharing resulted in membership increases, a Costco membership is a different beast," reads the report. "As the paragon of affordable bulk shopping for working Americans, Costco certainly risks alienating its membership base with their latest crackdown.

"Time will tell if Costco's tightening of membership utilization policies will contribute to the company's future success. But early polling shows positive signs."
