Plans to demolish Rock River School have been approved by aldermen

ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — City Leaders approved the plan to demolish the vacant Rock River School on Tuesday evening. The Kishwaukee Street school has been sitting empty for years and faced many code violations. The building is also filled with asbestos. The Winnebago County trustees took ownership of the site in 2021 and developers are interested in redeveloping the site. According to the agreement, the removal of the building must be completed by the end of next year. This approval was just a committee vote and now must be approved by the city council.
