Pitt County celebrating National Diabetes Awareness Day

GREENVILLE, N.C. (WNCT) — November 14th is National Diabetes Day and the Pitt County Health Department hosted a diabetes block party. The event had health experts, nutritionists, and health screenings to help those who need it. "I'm living with type one diabetes and so, this event is true to my heart," Diabetes Care Coordinator and Dietetic Technician Patti Columbe said. "I've had it since I was a little girl and having the opportunity to teach diabetes education here is, is the dream job right now. A pregnant woman filed a lawsuit Tuesday seeking to restore the right to an abortion in Kentucky in the latest challenge to the state's near-total ban on the procedure. The suit, filed in state court in Louisville, claims that Kentucky laws blocking abortions violate the plaintiff's constitutional rights to privacy and self-determination. "Without the ability to decide whether to continue a pregnancy, Kentuckians have lost the right to make critical decisions about their health, bodies, lives and futures," the suit said. Full House star Dave Coulier reveals he has cancer. "Five weeks ago, I was diagnosed with stage three, Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma. And in that time I've had three surgeries," he told Hoda Kotb on the TODAY Show. The disease is known to start in white blood cells and is treatable. He's had one round of chemotherapy so far and begins another round this week. Inside Edition Digital has more. A Canadian teen is hospitalized in critical condition with what is believed to be bird flu, a British Columbia health official said Tuesday. It's not clear how the teenager picked up the virus, which has been detected recently in wild birds and poultry in the province, said Dr. Bonnie Henry, provincial health officer. Henry said the teen was healthy before developing symptoms more than a week ago — initially eye redness, cough and fever — and has been hospitalized with a respiratory illness since Friday in Vancouver.
