Police: Crash kills Connally ISD kindergartener
A kindergartener at Connally Independent School District died Monday after being hit by a vehicle last week, according to Waco police.
Officers responded at 9:30 p.m. Oct. 9 to the 2500 block of East Lake Shore Drive, where they spotted a 5-year-old boy who was hit and injured by a vehicle, according to a press release. The child was transported to a local hospital in critical condition. He died Monday, the press release says.
"The driver has been cooperative during the investigation and no criminal charges will be filed," police wrote in the press release.
The district confirmed the student's death in a statement on Facebook .
"Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family as they grieve this tragic loss," the statement says. "The death of a student can bring about many emotions. CISD counselors and support from the Region 12 Education Service Center have been coordinated to assist students and staff in processing this information.
"The campus has been provided with age appropriate resources to assist our younger students with processing the loss if needed, and that information is being provided to the parents."
