PowerUp College and Resource Fair at UW-Parkside Nov. 16
The Mary Lou & Arthur F. Mahone Fund, in partnership with Kenosha Unified and Racine Unified school districts, will host a PowerUp College and Resource Fair on Saturday, Nov. 16.
The event will be held at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, 900 Wood Road.
The resource fair is designed to expose high school juniors, seniors and their families to area colleges, universities, employers and community organizations to help them map out life after high school. Students will have the opportunity to meet, network and discuss future goals with representatives from throughout the region.
The fair is open to all juniors and seniors from KUSD, RUSD, Christian Life School, Racine Lutheran, Shoreland Lutheran, St. Catherine's High School and St. Joseph Catholic Academy with organizers especially encouraging minority and low- to moderate-income students to attend.
"Partnering with the Mahone Fund, Racine Unified and other local schools for the PowerUp College and Resource Fair exemplifies our commitment to expanding access and opportunities for our students," said KUSD Superintendent Jeff Weiss. "By coming together, we open doors to vital resources, ensuring our juniors and seniors are equipped with the knowledge and support they need to make informed decisions about their futures. Partnerships like these are instrumental in building pathways to success for all our students."
"We are grateful that the Mahone Fund is once again partnering to provide this meaningful opportunity for our students to engage with colleges and universities," said RUSD Superintendent Soren Gajewski. "Some of our students would not otherwise have this kind of access to resources all in one place and I hope that it leads to more students taking full advantage of these post-secondary opportunities."

The Mahone Fund CEO Scholars Panel, supported by the Forest County Potawatomi, will showcase current and past years' scholarship recipients. Recipients will share their experiences and perspectives about college life and pursuing their career aspirations.
"I am honored to be back in Kenosha to give back to my community and share my college and career experiences with PowerUp attendees," said Adriana Marciniak, a 2014 Mahone Fund scholarship recipient. "As a former CEO scholarship recipient, I'm thrilled to give back and encourage the next generation of leaders."
"The Forest County Potawatomi have always prioritized empowering and educating our youth. Supporting initiatives like PowerUp ensures that youth in Racine and Kenosha will have the resources and guidance they need to achieve post-secondary success," said Forest County Potawatomi Chairman James A. Crawford. "We are proud to continue to support the Mahone Fund and communities that share a historical, cultural and present-day connection to the Potawatomi."
Workshop topics will include: Financial Literacy: Financial Preparation for College and Beyond, Career Exploration: Finding the Right Fit, HBCU College Admission and College Tour Workshop, and the College Admissions Process from A-Z.
"We are excited to welcome families to the PowerUp College and Resource Fair this year," said Sabrina Morgan, PowerUp site coordinator. "We have added a few new colleges and employers that will provide educational and career opportunities for the students."
New this year is the "Battle of the Mascots," a dance-off featuring mascots from some of the event's academic partners. The winning mascot, as selected by the audience, will take home bragging rights and a traveling trophy.
