A pretrial hearing is scheduled for Tuesday, October 8 at 8:30 a.m. for a man charged in the shooting death of a 14-year-old boy in Pasadena last year.

Alexis Ibarra, 24, of Pasadena, is scheduled to appear in Department F of the Pasadena Courthouse. He faces charges of murder and attempted murder in connection with the January 2022 incident that left Damian Issak Montoya dead and reportedly injured a 20-year-old man from West Covina.

Authorities allege Ibarra shot Montoya on January 18, 2022, near the intersection of Los Robles Avenue and Eldora Road. Montoya was sitting in the front passenger seat of a white Toyota when the shooting occurred around 3 p.m.

Pasadena Fire Department paramedics, who were in the area on an unrelated call, were flagged down by the Toyota's driver. They transported Montoya to Huntington Memorial Hospital, where he died two days later.

Police quickly identified a suspect vehicle and located both the vehicle and Ibarra in the 600 block of Mar Vista Avenue. Authorities recovered a firearm and other evidence allegedly linking him to the shooting.

The Pasadena Police Department is investigating the case as a "criminal gang incident." Detectives noted the white Toyota involved in this incident reportedly matched the description of a suspect vehicle in a robbery and shooting that occurred near Villa Park in Pasadena on the previous Sunday. Investigators were working to determine if the two incidents were related.

Ibarra was initially booked for murder and attempted murder before being formally charged. He pleaded not guilty to the charges on May 12, 2022. His bail is set at $4 million.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's office is prosecuting the case. Authorities continue to seek additional information from the public as the investigation remains active.
