Reigning National Player of the Year Zach Edey and Purdue will be the new No. 1 team in men’s basketball come Monday - and it will be well deserved. The undefeated No. 2 Boilermakers (6-0) beat three Top 15 teams in three days en route to the prestigious Maui Invitational championship - No. 11 Gonzaga, No. 7 Tennessee and No. 4 Marquette (which had taken down No. 1 Kansas in the semifinals). “I think it’s a positive that you can play three different games... and get the victory in all three of them,” Purdue’s Matt Painter, a four-time Big Ten Coach of the Year, told Andy Katz. Still, nothing the 7-foot-4 Edey and his teammates do during the regular season, or even in the Big Ten Tournament, will matter.
