Radio hosts left stunned as Melburnian reveals the staggering cost of vet bills for their sausage dog

A trio of Melbourne radio hosts were left speechless by one Melbourne man who revealed an eye-watering annual vet bill he received for his four-legged friend.

Nova 100's Ben, Liam & Belle, kicked off their Tuesday night show by discussing a Brisbane woman who admitted to spending $70,000 on her cat's vet bills.

'Would you pay $70,000 on your pet?' they asked, before opening up the call lines.

One woman in Sydney admitted she had spent $20,000 on her elderly Persian cat's vet bills related to UTIs.

But that was peanuts compared to the next caller, a Melburnian owner of three daschunds, or sausage dogs.

'Okay guys, vet bill totaled over $120,000,' said the owner, named Cam.

The radio hosts gasped aloud, with Belle asking if the caller had a pet horse.

'No, just another sausage dog,' Cam revealed.

Liam then suggested that the dog had to have passed away.

'Okay, another dachshund... I mean, obviously one-hundred grand, that sausage dog is six deep, yeah?'

'Well, he was a healthy dog. He just got run over by a car trailer that's all.'

Cam said that his dog, named Fritz, had 'a long road to recovery' that took more than six months after he was run over.

That called for multiple surgeries, including 'two plastic hips and reconstructive surgery on his bladder,' Cam said. 'That sort of thing.'

'Wait wait wait,' Liam stopped him. 'Cam, you're saying you paid $100 grand and that dog's still alive?'

Cam confirmed that Fritz is alive and well, and that he'd paid the total $120,000 and then received 'about $20,000 back,' from RSPCA pet insurance.

'Good old RSPCA,' he chuckled.

Fritz has two siblings, who are also sausage dogs. 'We've got three all up. We love 'em.'
