Rain, low temps and snowfall possible this week. See what to expect and when

Despite a warm start Monday and Tuesday, the first potential snowfall of the season may occur this week.

According to the National Weather Service in Wilmington , a few sprinkles or light showers may move across the area on Monday. Expect temperatures in the 60s with mid to high clouds.

Widespread rain showers are forecast Monday night and into Tuesday morning. Any instability will be pretty limited during this time. Rain will persist into Tuesday but will become more scattered by the afternoon. Wind gusts of around 25 mph will be possible.Temperatures will rise into the 60s on Tuesday despite expected rainfall and cloud coverage.

Showers will continue on Wednesday. Highs will range from the lower 50s west to the lower 60s east. Wind gusts up to 40 mph will be possible Wednesday afternoon through Thursday, per a hazardous weather outlook .

Much colder air will move into the region Wednesday into Thursday, bringing a possibility of rain and snow showers. The highest coverage will be Thursday afternoon and evening when instability will be the highest.

Highs on Thursday will drop to the mid- to upper 30s. Very minor slushy accumulations may occur during the first part of the day, especially across higher terrain and grassy surfaces. Another period of gusty winds will return Thursday afternoon and evening, which could exceed 40 mph at times.

More rain showers are forecast for Friday. Highs on Friday will rise into the lower 40s.
