RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - Drummer Parker Sundby from Rapid City is making waves on the national scene. He plays for singer/songwriter Mark Ambor 's band, and the group performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live Tuesday night.

"It was so incredible," Sundby said, "I grew up watching Jimmy Kimmel and seeing performances on YouTube and stuff. He was so cool, I didn't think we'd get to meet him, but he was so nice to all of us."

Sundby joined the band a year ago after meeting their keyboardist while performing in New York City. Since then, Sundby has traveled around the world, keeping the beat for Ambor and other bandmates.

When asked what advice he'd give to a young musician in the Black Hills hoping to follow in his footsteps, Sundby said, "Having fun with your instrument is almost more important than practicing diligently, just making sure that you're staying inspired and listening to stuff."

Sundby added, making friends in the music scene is always a good idea.
