Rideshare driver arrested for sexually assaulting passenger in Fairfax, officials say
Police arrested a rideshare driver who sexually assaulted a passenger while she was in his car on one night in August in Fairfax, Virginia, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.
Officials said on Aug. 10 before midnight, officers responded to the 12000 block of Strong Court in Fair Lakes for a sexual assault report. The woman told police that she was sexually assaulted by a rideshare driver, later identified as 47-year-old Sayed Cheshty, while she was inside the car.
The woman said that she was able to flee and call the police, officials said. Cheshty allegedly left the area before police arrived.
A couple of months after the incident, on Nov. 15, officials announced the arrest of Cheshty and charged him with Object Sexual Penetration.
Cheshty is being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center on no bond, officials said.
Police ask anyone with information regarding the incident or who may have had unlawful contact with Cheshty to call detectives at 703-246-7800.
Officials said that specialists from the Major Crime Bureau's Victim Services Division are ensuring the woman is getting the resources and assistance she needs following the incident.
