RIPTA exploring new ways to connect RI communities
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A new study is looking into "rapid transit options" that would connect Cumberland, Central Falls, Pawtucket, Providence, Cranston and Warwick.
The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority (RIPTA) announced the launch of its Metro Connector Study and survey last week. The project is being funded through a $900,000 U.S. Department of Transportation grant.

RIPTA says it will explore the possibility of light rail and rapid bus options that would operate on fixed routes.
"The Metro Connector Study is a crucial first step in enhancing our region's connectivity from north to south," said RIPTA's interim Chief Executive Officer Christopher Durand.
Riders and non-riders alike are encouraged to take an online survey that is available until Oct. 7. Anyone who needs help with the online survey can contact 401-784-9500 ext. 2012.
RIPTA will also be hosting several public meetings to connect with the community and discuss the project.
