TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (WIAT) — Rooted, a Tuscaloosa-based nonprofit, is launching an initiative to raise $50,000 to fund a sensory activation vehicle (SAV) in partnership with KultureCity and the Tuscaloosa Police Department.

SAVs are mobile units designed with sensory-friendly tools and spaces for people with sensory needs. According to Rooted, one in four individuals have an invisible disability. This includes individuals with autism, PTSD or other sensory processing challenges. This project would provide a quiet and inclusive space at busy public events in Tuscaloosa, including sporting events, concerts and street fairs.

"At Rooted, we believe in fostering environments where everyone feels welcomed and valued," said Liz Kindred, co-founder of Rooted, in a statement. "The Sensory Activation Vehicle represents a significant step toward that goal, ensuring that community events can be enjoyed by all, regardless of needs."

Rooted is asking for donations from the community, local businesses and philanthropists to support the project. Rooted asserts it is dedicated to making the Gospel, the arts and mental health services accessible to communities across west Alabama.
