The driver of the salt truck, a 63-year-old man, suffered a medical emergency and drove off the road, according to police.
One of the two trailers he was pulling flipped over and spilled its contents on the grass along the freeway, according to police.
The driver was taken to University of Michigan Hospital, where his condition was unknown, according to police.
No other drivers were involved in the crash, according to police.
Officials closed the right lane on the freeway while crews clean up the crash, according to police.
