Salvation Army of Savannah, CEMA to provide hot meals

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV)-Salvation Army of Savannah and Chatham County Emergency Management (CEMA) will be providing hot meals, hydration and food boxes to those affected by Helene.

"Salvation Army canteens are mobile, feeding kitchen units that are stationed throughout the county providing services to the hardest hit areas within our county," Major Jason Smith of Salvation Army Savannah told WSAV.

Smith said that additional resources will be forthcoming as products come available.

"The Salvation Army through Jenner's donors, as well as food, has been donated by catering companies and restaurants within our community to ensure that our residents are properly fed," Smith said.

Salvation Army is currently serving throughout the state of Georgia including Valdosta, Vidalia, Bainbridge and Douglas.

The Salvation Army is also providing hot meals to the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in Chatham County.

Smith said that they are requesting volunteers to help service and deliver meals. They are currently taking volunteers through United Way and you can find more information on how to volunteer in Savannah on their website.

"Salvation Army volunteers and employees are working around the clock to ensure that individuals who have experienced extended power outages are fed and provided hydration," Smith said.
