Second victim in fatal Border Patrol crash identified
DONNA, Texas ( ValleyCentral ) — The second victim involved in a fatal U.S. Border Patrol crash has been identified.
The Texas Department of Public Safety says Pharr resident, 47-year-old Cecillo Orozco III, has been identified as one of those killed in the Nov. 1 accident. DPS says he was the driver of an Ford F-150 that struck a Border Patrol transport van.
Brownsville resident, 21-year-old, Jose Martin Rodriguez-Lua, a Border Patrol processing coordinator and the passenger in the van died at the scene of the crash.
According to DPS , authorities responded to a fiery two-vehicle crash on U.S. 281 Military Highway east of FM 493 around 9 p.m., Friday, Nov. 1.
DPS troopers say the Border Patrol van was heading eastbound on U.S. 281 Military Highway east of FM 493 when it was struck head-on by the pickup driven by Orozco.
Officials say Orozco was driving on the wrong side of the road, not passing westbound on U.S. 281 Military Highway. DPS says after he truck struck the van, his truck rolled over and burst into flames.
The Border Patrol agent who was driving the van was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries and later released.
Rodriguez-Lua died at the scene.
According to the release, Orozco III was burned beyond recognition at the crash site.
