Several departments fight blaze at Brockway plant in Lapel
Nov. 10—LAPEL — Firefighters from several local departments battled a fire at the Brockway-Owens plant in Lapel.
There were visible scorch marks along the north side of the roof of the glass manufacturing building. Photographs showed firefighters using aerial equipment to battle the fire.
Jason Renner, assistant chief for the Lapel/Stony Creek Township Fire Department, said the first call was received at 6:45 a.m. Sunday concerning a commercial fire.
Renner said a second alarm was issued when flames were discovered in the roof.
"It was isolated to the roof on the north side of the building," Renner said. "There were no injuries. We were able to mitigate the damage to the roof area."
He said firefighters remained on the scene for approximately five hours and took an aggressive approach to fighting the fire in the roof.
Lapel firefighters were assisted by departments including the South Madison Fire Territory, Anderson, Edgewood, Noblesville, Wayne Township from Hamilton County, Vernon Township from Hancock County and the Madison County Emergency Management Agency.
