Route 8 shut down in Thomaston after car fire

THOMASTON, Conn. (WTNH) — Serious injuries have been reported after a car burst into flames on Tuesday night on Route 8 in Thomaston, according to state police.

The incident happened at around 10:30 p.m. in the area of exit 38. The highway is shut down at this time.

A fatal crash and resulting fire on Interstate-95 shut down the highway in Belcamp early Tuesday. According to Harford County fire officials, around 7 a.m., a tractor-trailer crash on northbound I-95 just north of the Riverside Parkway exit (80) caused a fire and left one person dead. All lanes of I-95 northbound are closed as firefighters used foam with the assistance of a tanker truck to battle the fire.

A driver has been hospitalized after driving straight through the guardrail of a parking garage and landing their car upside down on the street below, police said.
