Road work on Connecticut Ave. coming to an end

JOPLIN, Mo. — After more than a year of work to widen Connecticut Avenue in Joplin, construction is starting to wrap up.

Asphalt work is now finished on the new five-lane road, and striping should be done before the weekend.

The final touches from 32nd Street to the I-44 bridge will take place over the next month. That includes the installation of streetlights, fencing, and the seeding of grass.

Intermittent lane closures are still likely.

The widening program is expected to be complete before the end of the year. It's the result of a three-eighth cent capital improvement sales tax approved by voters in 2014.
