Sex Offender Failed To Report Address Change To Manchester: Prosecutor The man had moved out of Manchester, which investigators learned after he was arrested in another county, the prosecutor's office said.

MANCHESTER, NJ — A former Manchester Township man has been charged with failing to register as a sex offender after he moved out of Manchester, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said Wednesday.

Edwin M. Tanner, 51, was arrested Wednesday on two counts of failure to register as a sex offender, Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.

Under Megan's Law, certain sex offenders are required to register with their local police department when they change their address or change jobs, Billhimer said.

"Failure to comply with this obligation is a third-degree crime," he said.

Investigators learned Tanner moved from his address in the Whiting section of Manchester to a home in Robbinsville without notifying any law enforcement agency, the prosecutor's office said.

In addition, he was arrested on a simple assault charge on Aug. 11, and held in the Atlantic County jail, the prosecutor's office said.

After he was released from jail on Oct. 3, he failed to register with law enforcement, Billhimer said. He was arrested Wednesday by detectives from the prosecutor's office and Robbinsville police.

Tanner is being held in the Ocean County Jail pending a detention hearing, authorities said.

Information on what sex offense Tanner committed was not publicly available; he was not listed in the public portion of the New Jersey State Police sex offender registry .
