She's still got it! Olympic swimming great Susie O'Neill shows off her fit figure at local pool

Olympic swimming great Susie O'Neill was back in her natural habitat on Wednesday, enjoying a day in the sun at a local swimming pool.

The 51-year-old was well and truly in her element, making a splash at Yeronga Park Memorial Swimming Pool in the riverside Brisbane suburb of Yaronga.

Despite recently announcing her shock resignation from her Nova breakfast radio show, Susie was all smiles as she took in a sunny Brisbane day poolside.

But Susie wasn't there to work on her tan, but rather to compete against some lucky Ash, Luttsy & Susie listeners in the Nova show's Swim With Susie promotion.

Looking every inch the Olympic champion, Susie showed off her fit figure in a black and white patterned Speedo bikini.

The swimsuit showed off Susie's perfectly sculpted arms and toned pins.

While the spirit of competition may still be strong with Susie, she was not afraid to indulge in some fun.

After donning a yellow swimming cap and goggles, Susie proved that she was keen to make a splash, executing a bomb dive into the pool.

But it was soon time for the big race and Susie looked all business as she stepped up to the blocks.

She looked focussed as she dove off the blocks at the start of the race, her back muscles rippling as she prepared to break the water's surface.

The eight-time Olympic medalist earned the nickname Madame Butterfly during her career, thanks to her formidable mastery of the swimming stroke.

And Susie proved that she hasn't lost that innate talent, expertly and effortlessly carving through the water.

In the end Susie's pool prowess proved too much for her competitors and she ended the race with top honours.

Clearly chuffed with her performance, Susie grinned from ear to ear and looked toward the sky, taking in her victory.

The good sport did however find the time to applaud her competitor's efforts.

Obviously happy with the win, Susie beamed broadly as she was presented with a colourful bouquet of flowers.

She was quick to strike a 'champion' pose as she proudly held her spoils aloft.

Susie's win comes after she broke down in tears while announcing her shock resignation from her Brisbane Nova breakfast show last month.

The Olympic swimmer-turned presenter tearfully told her Ash, Luttsy & Susie listeners she was immediately stepping down after 10 years in the role.

'I do this with a heavy heart, the decision wasn't easy. It's hard for me to articulate exactly why I'm leaving,' Susie began.

'Turning 50 last year, I realised I'm at a whole new stage in my life. The next chapter will see me pursue other goals, both professionally and personally.'

Susie added that she already had some ideas about what the future held for her and reassured listeners they would get a chance to farewell her as she would remain on the air another six weeks.

'I want to get back to the grassroots of sport and involve myself in the wider community. It's going to be an emotional final day, saying goodbye to everyone,' she said.

'Whatever this next chapter brings, my Nova family won't be far away.'

She went on to praise her co-host Ash and Luttsy for being so encouraging over the years.

Co-host David 'Luttsy' Lutteral was quick to pay tribute to Susie, saying, 'It's been an incredible adventure becoming great mates with you. Can't wait to see your next chapter.'

Susie will present her final show on Friday, November 28.
