There are signs of high turnout in Sunday's election in the eastern German state of Brandenburg, officials said.

By 2 pm (1200 GMT), a total of 46.1% of eligible voters had already cast ballots, according to the state's election administrator. In the previous state election in 2019, the figure at the same time was just 31.3%.

Polling stations will remain open until 6 pm.

The provisional figures do not include postal ballots, which more than 20% of voters are believed to have used this year.

As of 2 pm on Sunday, election administrators said there had not been any major disruptions or known issues with the vote.
