A young single mother who brought her toddler on a first date with her has revealed how everything went wrong - but the mayhem didn't scare her potential new suitor away. Back in 2013, Chelsie Dort, from Sandy, Utah , was on the hunt for love again after going through a painful divorce. But as a 22-year-old single mother to a two-year-old boy, named Jaxden, she was having an extremely hard time finding anything long-term. 'I'd get ghosted as soon as I suggested that they meet Jaxden,' Chelsie, now 35, told the Today show recently. 'The reality of being with someone who has kids was just too much for them. It got to the point where I was like, I don't think I can keep doing this.' Chelsie was on the brink of giving up when she connected with a man named Bedford on Tinder. The two decided to meet for their first date at a local diner, and Chelsie expected the worst when she told him she'd be bringing her young son with her. But Bedford didn't object, and the three of them headed to the eatery for some breakfast. Unfortunately, Jaxden was particularly rowdy that morning, as most toddlers can be, and he soon began to wreak havoc on her date. The youngster refused to eat, stuck his hands in the food, and kept crawling under the table. 'Jax was sticking his fingers in jam packets and he kept crawling under the table,' she recalled. 'Then he refused to eat the food that Bedford had ordered for him. He was like, "No, no! I don't like it." And I was like, "I'm never going to hear from this guy again."' Despite the chaos, Bedford was not deferred, and the two continued to see one another. Six months later, he got down on one knee and proposed, and they've now been happily married for over a decade. While reflecting on the abnormal first meet-up, Bedford told Today that he was nervous when Chelsie told him she'd be bringing her son with her, but only because he thought he wouldn't make a good 'father figure.' 'I remember thinking, "This is going to be a one-and-done thing. We'd go out and that would be it." '[I was] in no position to be a dad figure,' he shared. But he praised Chelsie for making it known that she was a mother 'right off the bat.' 'I've never known anything but Chelsie with a kid. We've always had Jaxden. 'That's how our relationship was built,' he added. The couple have since welcomed four children together, Ryker, 10, Mya, seven, Naomi, five, and Sloane, three, and they're of course parents to Jaxden, who is now 13. 'We are a blended family navigating the ins and outs of co-parenting with my ex-husband's now wife. 'We don't use the term, step or half, we are just family,' she wrote on her website . Every year on their anniversary, Chelsie and Bedford return to the diner where they had their first date. 'It's surreal to go back there with this beautiful family we created together,' gushed the mother-of-five. 'I look forward to that breakfast every year. It's a reminder of where we started, and what we've built since then.'
