Sioux Falls aquatics bond vote expected later this year

B.Lee3 days ago
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Dakota News Now) - After an initial delay this spring, Sioux Falls officials are giving a clearer picture of what's next for future aquatic centers.

Back in May, leaders decided to take a step back on the Aquatics and Recreation Bond.

At that time, leaders said they wanted to give newly elected City Council members the chance to provide their feedback and take a closer look at what programs will be provided at those facilities.

During One Sioux Falls today, Sioux Falls Director of Finance Shawn Pritchett said the vote would be pushed back again.

"As we've had more conversations, we've decided it would not be prudent for us to bring this forward until after the general election in November. As we talked with the City Council and within our administration and with the public over the last several months, within the monthly financial update, we've talked about the impact that national elections can have on the bond market," said Pritchett.

Officials say the delay on the bonds vote shouldn't impact the acquisition of the Westside Recreation Center.
