Socialist group plans nationwide protest of Trump's 'reactionary agenda' after election
A self-described "revolutionary socialist organization" on Wednesday announced protest events across the country to speak out against President-elect Donald Trump's victory in the presidential election.
Socialist Alternative says on its website it works "to build a movement for a democratic, socialist society." The group's events this week will seek to challenge "Trump and his reactionary agenda" while building "international resistance to the far right and capitalism," the group wrote.
"Contrary to what the Democrats said at the time, the right wing was not defeated when Trump lost in 2020, in fact it grew under Biden," the group wrote via X. "This is exactly what socialists warned would happen. The Democrats can't stop the right, but mass protests and working-class action can."
Protests are planned for major cities in states like Minnesota, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania. Demands listed by local organizers include ending the war in Gaza, increasing minimum wage to $25 and ending "racist antiworker attacks on public education."
Previous social media posts suggest some of these demonstrations were planned in advance of the election.
"Trump is very likely to contest the election results & try to steal the election, even if Harris wins out-right," a Monday post about a New Haven, Connecticut protest reads. "A Trump victory is a massive threat to trans people, abortion rights, public services and immigrants."
The Monday post urges readers to attend the Thursday "rally and speakout."

Police in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania are preparing to respond to the Friday protest there, according to a statement shared by KDKA reporter Jennifer Borrasso.

Conspiracy theories are also beginning to be by supporters of Vice President Kamala Harris. Related posts are racking up million of views on social media following her decisive defeat in the election.
One post, made by a relatively small account, claimed to be "" The post has earned over 17 million views.

"Something doesn't seem right, record turnout but nearly 20 million less fewer votes?" singer Ricky Davila asked in a post that has 2.6 million views. "I need authorities to explain how that is possible."
