The US Department of Agriculture Rural Development Program approved a $50,000 grant and a $240,000 loan to be used by the town to buy a 2023 Volvo plow truck.

"This federal investment will give Southport the necessary resources to respond effectively to winter storms, protect residents, and ensure access for emergency services," Congressman Langworthy said.

The total cost for the project is $311,113 and the remaining funding is said to come from local sources, the release states.
