ST. CHARLES COUNTY — St. Charles City-County Library District CEO Jason Kuhl has told library officials that he is resigning. His last day will be Nov. 4.

Kuhl, who has served as the library's top official since 2017. Library officials said Kuhl plans to tell staff members on Friday afternoon.

His decision comes after a year of being the target of public anger over complaints about a library employee's attire and books in the St. Charles library system's collection. Much of the controversy centered on books with LGBTQ-related themes and characters available in the library's collection have been the target of public criticism from library patrons and county residents who consider them pornographic or obscene.Kuhl also drew ire for a short-lived plan to close three library branches.

This is not the first time that Kuhl has publicly tried to leave the library. Last fall, he interviewed and was a finalist for the library director job for Nashville, Tennessee.
