St. Francis mourns the sudden passing of football player Kevon Walker
LORETTO, Pa. – St. Francis University athletics is mourning the sudden passing of football player Kevon Walker.
Walker, who joined the Red Flash family in the summer of 2024 ahead of his freshman campaign, passed away Monday evening. He was a native of Buffalo and graduated from Canisius High School.
"The entirety of the department is heartbroken over the tragic and untimely loss of Kevon," St. Francis Athletic Director James Downer said. "Although his time at St. Francis was short, he made a positive impact on the football program, was well-liked and respected among the team, and showed the promise of a very bright future with the Red Flash. Our sincere thoughts and condolences are with Kevon's family, loved ones, teammates and coaches during this incredibly challenging time."
As shared in the university's statement, all classes were canceled Tuesday to allow the campus community time to gather, reflect and support one another. Counseling center and campus ministry personnel are available throughout the day to offer comfort and spiritual guidance to all students, faculty or staff in need of support.
The daily Mass will be held in honor of Walker, providing an opportunity for remembrance and prayer.
