Strasburg Bakery closes after 7 years; 'This decision has been far from easy'

After operating for more than seven years, Strasburg Bakery has closed its location in the center of the borough.

The bakery at 11 1/2 Main St., behind the Strasburg Creamery, was opened in 2017 by Vickiann Keene. It offered custom cakes, pastries, cookies and other baked treats. Keen operated the shop with her daughter, Bree.

"It is with a profoundly heavy heart that I share the news of the final closing of the Strasburg Bakery," Keen wrote in a Sept. 11 post announcing the closure. "This decision has been far from easy, as our journey together has been nothing short of extraordinary — filled with moments of joy, connection, and warmth that we will treasure forever."

Keene opened Strasburg Bakery as a retail and custom-order bake shop but in the last two years had only been doing custom and wholesale orders. Keene said that in October she will be joining The Daily Grind in Quarryville as its baker.

Prior to Strasburg Bakery, the 800-square-foot bake shop had been the home of Java Junction/OCB Cakes.
