Suspect dead in officer-involved shooting in Phoenix; no officers hurt

PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A suspect is dead after a Phoenix police officer-involved shooting late Monday night.

The shooting happened around 10 p.m. near 15th And Wier avenues .

Police said they received a call about a home burglary that was in progress. When they responded, the suspect was in a vehicle, and a police pursuit began.

The suspect crashed his vehicle into a retaining wall in the area of 15th and Wier, police said. He then exited the vehicle with two handguns.

Officers tried to detain him, but police say that's when he brandished the guns toward the officers, who then fired their weapons.

The suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. No officers were injured in the shooting.

No other suspects are outstanding.

This investigation is still ongoing.

This is the 46th officer-involved shooting in Maricopa County this year and the 79th in Arizona.
