BROOME COUNTY, N.Y. (WIVT/WBGH) – The 2025 Broome County Budge was approved on Thursday and residents can expect to see their taxes go down for the sixth year in a row.
According to Broome County, alongside the property tax rate reduction, the budget also includes significant workforce investments, substantial infrastructure upgrades, and expanded support for economic development, housing, and public safety.
Broome County says the 2025 budget will reduce the property tax rate by 0.3%. This marks a 24% total reduction since 2018, despite inflation increasing over 25% during that time.
The 2025 budget also allocates $3.9 million to upgrade 271 positions for county employees. It also allocates $5 million to a new Economic Development and Housing Fund that aims to benefit housing projects while encouraging long-term growth across the county.
Further highlights of the 2025 budget include public safety enhancements with an additional $2 million supporting law enforcement as well as continued veteran support as programs dedicated to local veterans will continue to receive essential funding. Also approved is a small community fund with $500,000 allocated for supporting community projects, enhancing public safety, infrastructure, and recreational spaces across the county.
