Temporary turn restriction onto Harvey Taylor Bridge to start next week: PennDOT
W.Johnson4 hr ago
The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) has announced that a temporary turn restriction will be implemented next week for trucks making right turns from southbound Front Street onto the M. Harvey Taylor Bridge at Forster Street in the City of Harrisburg. The restriction is expected to be in place from Wednesday, Nov. 13, to Monday, Nov. 18. The restriction will be in place to allow new concrete curbing and sidewalk to cure at the intersection, a press release said. A detour will be in place. Trucks should continue south on Front Street to Market Street, turn right onto the Market Street bridge and cross the river into Wormleysburg, turn right onto Front Street in Wormleysburg and proceed to Stella Street, turn left onto Stella Street, then left onto Second Street to proceed to the Harvey Taylor Bridge. Motorists should be alert and drive with caution through the area. This work is part of the City of Harrisburg's Capital Gateway Project , which involves improvements on Forster Street between Front Street and 2nd Street to include removing the eastbound slip lane onto Front Street and enhancing pedestrian facilities with bulb-outs, median refuges, and enhanced signal equipment that reduce pedestrian crossing distances and other miscellaneous construction. Work began in September and is expected to be completed in June 2025. JVI Group, Inc., of York Springs, PA, is the contractor for this $1.7 million project.
