Teninty upends Morgan for supervisor seat
OTTUMWA — In the span of two cycles, the Wapello County Board of Supervisors went from all Democrats to all Republicans.
Carrie Teninty will join the board in January after defeating Democrat incumbent Brian Morgan handily during Tuesday's general election. She will be the first female to serve on the board in decades.
The Eldon city clerk won by just over 7 points against Morgan, mainly by holding her own in the Ottumwa precincts and then running up the vote count in the rural areas. Teninty won five of the 10 Ottumwa precincts and was just over 400 votes behind once the rural polling places reported their votes.
Morgan was seeking a third term on the board and touted his ability to keep residents taxes low and adhering to difficult headwinds counties face because of budget crunches as a result of state legislation that was passed.
Teninty will continue to serve in her role as the city clerk in Eldon, and prioritized the county's budget as one of her campaign issues.
Teninty finished with 7,493 votes (53.6%) to Morgan's 6,468 (46.3%). The win was a continuation of the county moving more Republican.
