This footage shows the moments before a dangerous driver smashed into another motorist while trying to getaway from police - leaving them needing surgery for serious facial injuries.

Luke Young, 34, was jailed for three years and four months over the high-speed collision in Weybridge, Surrey, on October 30.

Young, who was already disqualified from driving, failed to stop when police indicated for him to on July 15.

This triggered a pursuit during which Young drove erratically and well over the speed limit as he attempted to evade officers.

The chase ended when Young collided with another vehicle - causing serious facial injuries to the other driver who ultimately needed surgery.

Footage from the police car's dash cam shows a large lorry veering into the middle of the road - as it attempts to avoid the crash.

Young tried to flee the scene but was caught and arrested by police officers.

Further forensic investigations then confirmed that he was the driver at the time of the collision.

Young, from Shepperton, Surrey, pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

During his sentencing at Guildford Crown Court, he was also disqualified from driving for nine years and two months.

DS Ben Grilli, of Surrey Police, said: 'Luke Young had no regard or thought for the consequences of his dangerous driving on that fateful day in July and as such a man suffered serious injuries through no fault of his own.

'Most road traffic collisions are entirely preventable and especially so in this case. If you drive dangerously in Surrey you are putting other people's lives at risk and we will bring you to justice where we can.

'We are pleased he will now spend over three years in prison to think about his actions and will not able to cause disruption to the lives of anyone else.'
