TEXARKANA, Texas (KSLA) — The City of Texarkana, Texas, has signed an agreement with Texarkana College to create new opportunities for community development, economic growth and workforce training.

"It is a great partnership and, again, we look to many years collaborating with Texarkana College," city manager David Orr said.

The city has long worked with the college in different areas, he said, but the newly signed memorandum of understanding strengthens the partnership. "This agreement formalizes some of the existent partnerships we have in place at Texarkana College into one agreement."

Now the city's 500 employees will have access to many of Texarkana College's facilities and more.

"The benefits are access to the Pinkerton Center Internships and fellowships and also economic development through the EPA job training Brownsfield Program, and also the Assembly Line Incubator space," Orr said.

In a news release, college President Jason Smith said the memorandum of understanding solidifies their commitment to providing real-world opportunities for students while contributing to the city's growth. He said they look forward to creating a better future for residents and students.
