The biggest sign that Bindi Irwin has lost her chance to take over the family business from her brother Robert

Robert Irwin could be set to take over the family business while his sister Bindi looks after Australia Zoo.

The celebrity conservationist, 20, appears to be taking charge of family matters by representing the Irwins at several events of late.

Most recently, Robert led the show at the Steve Irwin Gala dinner in Brisbane on Saturday, and attended The Earthshot Prize Awards alongside Prince William in Cape Town, South Africa .

The pair were seen laughing and smiling as they posed together on the red carpet at the star-studded event on Wednesday while Bindi remained in Queensland .

During the trip, Robert also went for a walk with Prince William who then revealed his favourite African animal.

In the video shared to social media, the son of the late Steve 'the Crocodile Hunter' Irwin asked the Prince of Wales what his 'favourite African animal' was.

William replied: 'Oh, it's a tough question, it's a really tough question. My children ask me this regularly. I think I'm going to have to say the cheetah. Fantastic animal.' Irwin then said his favourite was the chameleon.

Robert also attended the Logie Awards in August after being nominated for a Gold Logie following his successful hosting role on I'm A Celebrity ... Get Me Out of Here!

He was the 'hot favourite' to win the award which was later claimed by Channel Seven presenter Larry Emdur.

Robert made a glowing impression on fans when he took over as co-host of I'm A Celebrity this year alongside longtime presenter Julia Morris.

And on Saturday, Julia hosted the annual Steve Irwin Gala event at The Star in Brisbane celebrating the life and legacy of the late wildlife warrior.

Mother and son duo Terri and Robert arrived together ahead of the sold out dinner, where met with guests over a three-course dinner in a bid to raise funds for the charity.

Meanwhile, Bindi has been keeping a low profile in recent years after winning the US version of Dancing With The Stars in 2019.

Bindi often posts video to social media while spending time at Australia Zoo with her husband Chandler Powell, her daughter Grace Warrior and her mother Terri.

She hasn't appeared on any reality TV shows since her DWTS appearance.

Last year, Bindi underwent major surgery for endometriosis in the United States.

At the time, she spoke about her decade-long struggle with the disease in a lengthy Instagram post.

The conservationist also posted a confronting photo of herself in a hospital bed after the surgery.

The Crikey! It's the Irwins star said she had spent ten years 'torn apart [by] the pain' and knew she had to have surgery because she 'couldn't live like I was'.

She explained how the surgeon from the Seckin Endometriosis Center in New York City had removed a total of thirty-seven lesions and a 'chocolate cyst' - a term for a cyst filled with menstrual blood.

Steve 'The Crocodile Hunter' Irwin died age 44 off the coast of Queensland on 4 September 2006, after being pierced in the chest by a stingray while filming a nature documentary .

Bindi was six years old when he tragically passed, while Robert was three months shy of his third birthday.

His legacy, however, lives on through his family, who have continued his mission of wildlife conservation and advocacy.

It was Steve's father, Bob, 85, who built the iconic Queensland zoo from the ground up in 1970 and passed it on to his late son and his wife Terri in 1992.

In his lifetime, Steve promoted wildlife conservation with his own hit TV show, The Crocodile Hunter.

His family have carried on his legacy with their own blockbuster wildlife reality series Crikey! It's the Irwins, which debuted in 2018 and can still be seen on the Animal Planet network.
