Out of a dream season comes a dream team.

Wyoming Valley Conference field hockey had what arguably is its most
successful season in 1999, producing a state champion, three All-Americans and
a record number of all-state selections.
The Times Leader picked all-star teams to reflect that success.

Each player who was named All-American or all-state was also named a first
team all-star in their respective class (either 3A or 2A). Additionally, The
Times Leader added players it felt deserved first team all-star recognition to
the list.

And the list is quite long.

So while doing this to be inclusive in post-season honors, The Times Leader
selected 11 players to an exclusive Dream Team. From the list of all-stars, 11
players were picked as best of the best: the top three forwards, the top three
midfielders, the top three defenders, one goalie, and the next best player. A
most valuable player and a coach of the year were also selected.

Leading the Dream Team is its MVP, April Fronzoni. The Wyoming Valley West
senior forward was named first team All-American for the second consecutive
year. She is joined by two Spartan teammates: Haley Dervinis, a senior
midfielder; and Lauren Thomas, a senior goalie.

Crestwood is represented on the Dream Team by an inspirational player and a
coach who helped the Big Red Machine win the Class 2A state championship.
Senior center midfielder Sara Silvetti, named a first team All-American, and
coach of the year Elvetta Gemski helped transform a team that began the season
with nine first-year starters into a state champion.

Lake-Lehman landed a pair of seniors on the Dream Team. Forward Janelle
Perlis, named a second team All-American, and midfielder Rachel Kasper helped
lead the Black Knights to the WVC title, its fifth consecutive District 2
title, and the state quarterfinals.

Delaware Valley landed a pair on the Dream Team, senior forward Ashley Cox
and senior midfielder Kate Jordan. They helped the Warriors reach the District

Rounding out the team are three top defenders: Wyoming Seminary senior
Molly Conway, Coughlin senior Jill Pesotski and Lackawanna Trail junior Sara
Tylutki.
