Tim Walz Fires Up Democratic Supporters in La Jolla Fundraising Stop

Vice President candidate Tim Walz fired up Democratic supporters in La Jolla on Sunday afternoon, telling a fundraising reception that Donald Trump must be stopped to protect U.S. democracy.

He cited the danger of conservative Project 2025 , noting it calls for privatizing the National Weather Service amid climate change. And he called out Trump for spreading conspiracy theories about Hurricane Helene, which inundated parts of rural North Carolina.

Helping in disasters "is when Americans do the best," Walz said, but "this is when Donald Trump sees a political opportunity."

He praised Kamala Harris, saying that she would be a president for all Americans, including Trump supporters. "Let's get this thing won," he said.

Walz, the governor of Minnesota, is on a three-day West Coast campaign swing with stops in Southern California, Sacramento and Seattle.

He landed at San Diego International Airport and was whisked by motorcade to the home of Qualcomm founder Irwin Jacobs, where Walz was introduced by Jacobs' granddaughter, Rep. Sara Jacobs.

After the visit, Walz flew to another fundraising reception in Montecito, and then landed in Los Angeles, where he will appear on ABC's "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on Monday.
