FORTY FORT: The psychology class at Fortis Institute, 166 Slocum St., is holding a bake sale to benefit The Cancer Wellness Center, Candy’s Place from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Classroom 2 at the school. There will be raffles with prizes, including gift certificates to local restaurants. There also will be a school-supply auction.

HARVEYS LAKE: The General Federation of Women’s Clubs of Harveys Lake holds monthly meetings from September through May at the American Legion of Harveys Lake. Meetings are held at 7 p.m. on the first Thursday of the month. Women interested in joining the club are invited to attend a meeting or call Linda Schuler at 639-2541.

HUGHESTOWN: The Hughestown Lions Club will meet at 7 tonight at the Hughestown Hose Company. President Steve Golya will preside. On the agenda are plans for the upcoming Halloween parade and party to be held at 1 p.m. on Oct. 27. All members are urged to attend. Anyone interested in joining the club can contact Steve Golya at 655-4552 or any member of the organization.

HUGHESTOWN: The Hughestown Lions Club will hold a Halloween party and parade at 1 p.m. on Oct. 27 at the pavilion on Center Street. The parade will begin at 1 p.m. in St. Peter’s Lutheran Church parking lot and proceed to the pavilion. Costumes will be judged and prizes awarded. Children in attendance will receive goodie bags.

LUZERNE: The Peace & Justice Center is holding its 24th annual business meeting and light potluck at 6:30 p.m. on Oct. 23 at Betz-Jastremski Funeral Home, 568 Bennett St. The annual business meeting will be held at 7 p.m. The event is free and open to all peacemakers from the community. Attendees should bring a light appetizer or dessert to share.

MOUNTAIN TOP: Mountain Top Hose Company No. 1 and the Mountain Top Area Ambulance Association are hosting open houses from 1-4 p.m. on Sunday at their respective stations to display new vehicles to the community. Events include a Life Flight landing, weather permitting; free face painting; and free hot dogs and soft drinks.

OLYPHANT: Students at The Geneva Christian School will honor their grandparents and area veterans during a special Grandparent’s Day celebration at 12:30 p.m. on Friday. This year’s program has a patriotic theme in recognition of all veterans. The students have prepared speeches, patriotic music selections and recitations.
