ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. ( WWSB /Gray News) - A toddler has died in Florida after he was allegedly left in a vehicle all day.

According to the St. Petersburg Police Department, a man went to the Bayfront Child Development Center Wednesday to pick up his child.

But when he spoke to the staff, they told him that his 1-year-old boy had not attended that day.

St. Pete police said the father, realizing he hadn't dropped his son off, then went back to his car where he found the child unresponsive.

The boy was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Authorities say they are continuing to investigate the situation.

Last year, Kids and Care Safety reported there were six hot car deaths in the state of Florida.
