Here are a look at five of the top performers in the Columbus Telegram's surrounding area from the fifth week of the high school football season in no particular order.

Brogan Benes of Boone Central

The Cardinals improved to 3-2 with a 42-6 win over Cross County Friday with junior Brogan Benes leading the way for Boone Central.

Benes ran the ball 15 times for 160 yards and two scores, with his longest run of the day totaling 91 yards. On defense, Benes recorded two tackles. Overall, the Cardinals finished with 288 yards on the ground to go along with 139 passing yards.

The Week 5 win marked Benes' third time of the season finishing with over 100 yards rushing. Through five games, Benes has racked up 713 yards on the ground.

Boone Central will host 0-5 Centura in Week 6.

Dalton Pokorney of Shelby-Rising City

Senior Dalton Pokorney scored two touchdowns in the Huskies' fourth win of the season.

SRC played at East Butler in Week 5 and beat the Tigers 42-12. The Huskies were able to lead 28-6 at the half before outscoring the Tigers 14-6 in the second half to secure the 30-point win.

Pokorney finished three catches for 99 yards and one score. On the ground, he had five rushes for 48 yards and one touchdown.

On the defensive side of the ball, Pokorney had a team-high 13 tackles.

The 4-1 Huskies will return to the road to play at 2-3 Centennial in week six.

Gavin Groteluschen of Humphrey-Lindsay

The Bulldogs hosted winless Newman Grove/St. Edward in Week 5 as Humphrey-Lindsay came away with its third win of the season in a 26-12 ballgame. Humphrey-Lindsay trailed the Panthers 12-6 after the first quarter, but the Bulldogs were able to score the next 20 points to get the win.

Junior Bulldogs Gavin Groteluschen helped lead Humphrey-Lindsay as he finished with 157 yards on the ground and added two touchdowns.

The now 3-2 Bulldogs will host 2-3 Clarkson/Leigh.

Tucker Matthies of Clarkson/Leigh

Junior Patriot Tucker Matthies led his team to a season-high 84 points in the Patriots' 84-26 win over visiting Madison in week five.

Matthies racked up 226 yards on 10 carries as he also finished with four rushing touchdowns.

The Patriots finished with 493 yards on the ground after attempting no passes in their 58-point win.

Defensively, Matthies had five tackles for the Patriots which was tied for fourth on the team as Hunter Gall and Blake Loseke led the team with the duo each having seven tackles.

Clarkson/Leigh will play at 3-2 Humphrey/Lindsay in Week 6.

Haden Helgoth of High Plains

The Storm lost their Week 5 game to Bruning-Davenport/Shickley 34-20.

In the loss, senior quarter Haden Helgoth was a standout for the Storm.

Helgoth threw for 149 yards on 9-of-14 passing with his two touchdown passes going to Gage Friesen.

The senior also ran the ball 26 times for 74 yards and one score as Helgoth contributed to all three Storm touchdowns.

On defense, Helgoth also led the team with 17 tackles.

The 3-2 Storm will travel to face 0-5 Giltner on Friday.
