Traffic Alert: Part of I-89 to shut down Sunday night

COLCHESTER, Vt. (WCAX) - Interstate 89 in both directions at Exit 17 in Colchester will shut down to all traffic starting Sunday night.

Vt. Agency of Transportation says crews will be working to install reinforcements for the Route 2 bridge over I-89.

From Sunday, November 17, to Friday, November 22, the interstate will shut down between 8:00 p.m. and 6:00 a.m.

During these nighttime closures, traffic will be maintained using detour routes. Southbound traffic on I-89 will be directed to exit the interstate at Exit 17, turn left onto US-2, and immediately re-enter I-89 using the southbound on-ramp at the Exit 17 interchange.

Northbound traffic on I-89 will be detoured to exit the interstate at Exit 16 in Colchester, travel approximately 6.3 miles on US-2/US-7 to Exit 17, and re-enter I-89 using the northbound on-ramp at the Exit 17 interchange.

Officials are reminding drivers to pay attention to signage posted along the detour routes.
