Tuesday Forecast: Where the wind comes sweepin’ down the plains...

Z.Baker3 months ago
LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) - This holiday week will include a wide variety of weather...a late-November period with all the fixin’s...

A busy Thanksgiving travel period may include some challenging weather conditions at times...especially later this week. As rain moves out and strong high pressure builds in...strong north-northwest winds will dominate the weather scene on Tuesday. Seasonal temperatures and mostly sunny skies are expected during the day...with northwest wind gusts of 35-to-45 mph possible at times. Highs will range from the lower 40s-to-lower 50s, just about where they should be for this time of year...but those winds will make it “feel” much cooler. Wednesday looks sunny and pleasant...with a warming breeze out of the south-southwest pushing daytime highs back up into the 50s and 60s. Thanksgiving Day Thursday looks breezy and cooler once again as another cold front slides across the region. Northwest winds of 25-to-35 mph will help drop our temperatures back down into the 30s and 40s. The day is also expected to be mainly dry across 10-11 Country. Our longer-range weather models diverge significantly later this week. Both models have it turning colder with some snow possible on Friday...with the best chance for accumulations looking to be in the western and central parts of the state. One model then weakens the disturbance responsible for the Friday snow “chance” as it moves east...the other model would continue the snow chance for eastern Nebraska into Saturday. Obviously...we have a few days to iron out the details of this late-week weather system...and hope for some better model agreement in the coming days, one way or another. Please stay tuned to the forecasts later this week as we roll through the Thanksgiving holiday weekend.
