Vincent Velazco, a senior at Blair High School in Pasadena and member of the Class of 2024, has been awarded a four-year, full-tuition Posse Scholarship to attend Pepperdine University, according to the Pasadena Unified School District.

Velazco, who will major in sports medicine, expressed gratitude for the support he received from his teachers and counselors throughout his high school career.

The scholarship recipient participated in various extracurricular activities during his time at Blair High School, including varsity soccer, the Yearbook committee, College Access Plan, and UCLA's Educational Outreach Program.

Velazco is also an International Baccalaureate Diploma candidate and received his Seal of Biliteracy in Spanish, demonstrating his academic achievements beyond athletics.

The Posse Scholarship, awarded to Velazco, is a prestigious program that provides full-tuition scholarships to promising students from diverse backgrounds to attend partner colleges and universities.

PUSD highlighted Velazco's accomplishment on their social media platforms, congratulating him on his success and future endeavors at Pepperdine University.

"#ClassOf2024 spotlight! Blair High School and Middle School Vincent Velazco is a recipient of a four-year, full-tuition Posse Scholarship. Vincent will attend Pepperdine University where he will major in #sports medicine. #Congratulations Vincent," PUSD said on their Facebook and Instagram pages.

Velazco's interest in sports medicine aligns with his long-standing passion for athletics and physical fitness, which he plans to pursue at the collegiate level. He says he has always been interested in sports and exercise in general.

The scholarship recipient credits his high school experience, particularly the guidance of his teachers and counselors, for giving him a game plan to face future challenges.

The Posse Scholarship award to Velazco is part of a broader achievement for PUSD. Four other seniors are receiving full Posse Scholarships this year: Giselle Alcantara, also from Blair High School; Mphatso Johnson, John Muir High School Early College Magnet; Isaak Uriu, John Muir High School Early College Magnet; and Zoe Sanchez, Pasadena High School.
