GAINESVILLE, Fla. (WCJB) - 25 blessing buckets were distributed to veterans who are facing hardships today. This is the 11th year the Gainesville veterans have gotten this support.

The blessing buckets have items such as hygiene products, food, and personal care supplies for veterans who may be facing financial hardship.

Ronna Jackson, the chaplain of the American Legion says over the years, the blessing bucket has grown and evolved, creating a lasting impact on the lives of many individuals and families.

"It came to me that we needed to reach out to the community and to give back to veterans and families. My niece has already done the blessing bags so I thought let's build off that. Go big or go home, so that was the birth of the blessing buckets," added Jackson.

In 2010, Jackson's son died while serving in the military. In his memory, she founded the Blessing Buckets organization in 2013, providing support and comfort as she coped with her loss.

"It was a huge part of my healing. It's a continuous way for his legacy to live on through me but also my way to give back to the ones that mean so much to me," said Jackson.

This program was created to provide essential items and support to those in need. Gregory Desue was invited to the event and says he was grateful the community came together to help out those in need.

"If you have the time and you're willing to share your time and help out homeless. I mean volunteer you know be a part of the solution and be a part of the blessing of those people who need help," added Desue.

Veterans who attended said they were grateful for the love and support.
